Big Fish Sushi

I always joke with my oldest London, that he was an old Japanese man in his last lifetime. He is obsessed with Godzilla, would wear pajamas all day if he could and he loves seafood. I mean, he asks for smoked salmon as snack and if we could afford it, I think he would eat oysters on the daily. So it comes as no surprise that he loves sushi and all summer, he had been haranguing me into taking him to get some. So the last full day off before school started, we headed out for a morning hike with the promise of Big Fish Sushi as a reward afterwards.

Of course, after the hike we when finally arrived at Big Fish, we were all starving and after ordering, we were worried that we may have overdone it. Our fears were unfounded however, as every roll, speck of rice and edamame disappeared into someone’s mouth. The rolls were inventive and though I regretted ordering my favorite roll first as it was long gone before I got a second bite, it was a delicious first taste of Big Fish Sushi.

The kids bento box was a great addition as well, and for $10 I thought it was a pretty killer deal. As we munched our way thru the seared ahi tuna salad, the fancy salmon roll and the Seahawk roll, we happily relished a meal with (mostly) well behaved kids and delicious food. It was a quissential PNW afternoon, full of nature, fresh fish and cold beer.

Of course I had to up the ante though and dared Huck to a wasabi challenge which he readily accepted for the bargain price of $1. His reaction was ridiculously funny and much to Edgar’s embarrassment, our whole table erupted into fits of laughter. Then not to be outdone by his big brother, Rio wanted in on the fun and took down the wasabi like a champ! By the time our shenanigans subsided, the restaurant was mostly empty and we gathered up what was left of our good behavior and headed out. Going out to sushi might not be an everyday meal in our house, but after eating at Big Fish, I decided that maybe it could at least be a monthly affair. Next time though, it will have to be a pickled ginger challenge in place of wasabi; we have to keep those tastebuds well rounded after all. After all, what’s the point of being well behaved if you can’t let that spicy side out occasionally?
